Introducing Marilyn...
Marilyn is an adorable, ultra-affectionate little lady from the first litter of our Specialty Best in Show winning girl Tina (aka Aust Ch Mzalia Private Dancer).
She is named after the legendary Hollywood actress Marilyn Monroe as she is such a pretty little lady with a touch of sassiness about her. She even has a "beauty spot" on the back of her neck. It ties in nicely with her show name, and maintains the tradition of risque or movie related names down from her grandmother Debbie (aka Aust Ch Mzalia Texas Cheerleader).
Marilyn has an immense love of life. She is just so loving and affectionate, and is by far the waggiest basenji we have ever owned. Every time you greet her, the ears go flat against her head, the tail madly wags, and she beams that gorgeous basenji smile all the while. She almost turns herself inside out to greet you.
It is impossible not to lose your heart to Marilyn. She is a total delight!
At birth, Marilyn was less than half the size of the next smallest pup in the litter and we were really concerned that she would survive. For the first week of her life, I had limited sleep making sure that she was getting enough to eat and that her bigger brothers and sisters were not pushing her out of the way when trying to get a feed off mum.
Marilyn was such a determined little fighter during this time, and it was obvious that she had a huge will to survive. But she always wanted to be an independent girl, as she always tried to get to mum by herself, without outside assistance.
Over the months since her birth, she has gradually been catching up to her littermates in size, and she has now grown to the required 16" of the standard.
Puppies
Marilyn's first litter is planned for 2011. For more information, please visit our Breeding Plans page.
Show Record...
Marilyn has had very few shows at the moment as she were concentrating on her sisters Dax (aka Mzalia Playing Tricks ~ Exp Fin), and Amy (aka Mzalia Playing Hard To Get).
In 2009 we have started to show Marilyn on a regular basis, and she recently won her first Challenge and was Runner-up Best of Breed at the Spitz Breeds Club of South Australia show
The highlights of her career so far are:
Winning Best Red & White Coat at the 2009 Basenji Club of Victoria Specialty (under Susan Coe, Akuaba Basenjis)
2nd Minor Puppy Bitch Class at the 2009 Basenji Club of Victoria Specialty (under Kay Eldred, Jebelmarra Basenjis)
2nd Limit Bitch Class (to the Reserve Challenge winner) at the 2010 Basenji Club of Victoria Specialty (under Mrs Barbara Binder, Del Viento Borzois, USA)
Despite the limited showing she has had, Marilyn is over halfway to becoming an Australian Champion.
Critiques...
"Very fine red & white bitch with good top-line and pleasing head. Tail could be tighter set and pasterns stronger."
Mrs Kay Eldred (New South Wales, Jebelmarra Basenjis)
