Ranger's Show Career

Mzalia Texas RangerWhilst we always thought Ranger was a nice baby, the real proof comes when they finally hit the Show Ring to compete against their peers - and boy, he could hardly have made a more impressive start to his career.

During his short career of just 28 shows, he was very successful, not only in the Dog classes, but for his Class of Breed also! Many of these wins were also converted to Group level. And everywhere he went he received wonderful comments.

1999 Basenji Club of NSW Baby Dog ClassBut the biggest thrill of all came at the New South Wales Basenji Specialty (which here in Australia is the closest Show we have to a National for Basenjis), when Ranger won the large Baby Puppy Dog class, with his litter-brother Duke (Mzalia Texas Cowboy) finishing runner-up to him.

A natural-born show off, Ranger really enjoyed the ring. Always wanting to please, when you stacked him in the line-up he stayed in place, stretching his neck up to full length when the judge looked at him.

Ranger gaitingRanger was a great dog to show, and he developed into a very handsome and beautifully bodied adult.  His first Runner-up in Group award came at just 7 months, and this was another big thrill has he had to defeat many good basenjis just to get Best of Breed! And to win his second Challenge Certificate, he had to beat no less than 4 Multiple Best in Group winners!

Unfortunately, a shoulder injury he incurred in February 2000 whilst playing in his yard, has not responded to treatment in the way we had hoped, so regrettably he will not be able to resume his show career.

Ranger has been retained by us for stud purposes, and has not disappointed us with the quality of the pups that he has produced in his first two litters. Please check out his Stud page to learn more about the puppies he has produced.
