Jason's Show Career

Jason winning Back-to-Back BIS and RuBISWell, where do you begin with this amazing dog! In his first two shows he went Baby Puppy in Group and never looked back! Jason really has been one of the star performers of our kennel.

A natural born show off, the laid-back persona he displays outside of the ring disappears once he goes in though those gates. He stretches his neck up by an inch and says, "I am here - I dare you not to look at me". The consummate showman, and a pleasure to take into the ring.

Jason gaitingHe commenced his Show career on the 3rd & 4th of October 1998, and he could not have made a more impressive start! He went around the ring like a veteran, to become Baby Puppy of Breed winner, and then on both days, he followed it up to win the best BABY PUPPY IN GROUP award as well. Then two weeks later he topped it off with another pair of Baby Puppy in Group awards, a 1st and a 2nd in the Baby Puppy Sweepstakes and then his first BABY PUPPY IN SHOW award. All of these results were at Championship Show level.

Jason Winning BIS at the 2001 Basenji Club of Victoria SpecialtyJason has gone on from strength to strength since then and has achieved awards too numerous to mention. A perusal for his Show Record below makes for impressive reading. Of course for us, his greatest achievement is when he went BEST IN SHOW at the 2001 Basenji Club of Victoria Specialty Show (pictured), only just shadowing his All Breeds Champ Show Back-to-Back RuBIS and BIS wins in New South Wales in March 2002.

Other  highlights are his announcement of the Spitz Breeds Club of South Australia's Top Spitz Puppy 1998/1999, the Best in Group Win to bring up his Australian title, his 4th Place in the 1998/1999 South Australian Canine Association Open Show Dog of the Year (Hound Group) Award, and his consistent results under International Judges, at Royals and at Breed Specialty Shows.

In October 2002, Jason achieved the last of the 1000 points required to become and Australian Grand Champion. His last 250 points came in just 9 months and included no less than 5 Best Exhibit in Group awards. He is the first Grand Champion of his breeder John Forbes.

In August 2004, Jason achieved another marvellous milestone when he won his 20th Best Exhibit in Group award.

Jason is now retired from the Show Ring however he may come out occasionally for Veterans Classes at Basenji Specialty Shows.

We are very proud of Jason's amazing achievements.
