Flame's Show Career
This makes her a real pleasure to Show. She seems to have an inherent knowledge that you need to butter up the judges. She gives them great attention and on more than one occasion has "eye-balled" them whilst in the line-up. And she will often let her loving personality show through as well, showing signs of affection by giving either a lick or a paw before leaving the ring. And she has really surprised us on a couple of occasions when she has tried to thank the judge when she has won something at Group or at Show level. It makes for amusing video when she thinks that she has won, when she hasn't.... One thing that I have to do with her though is really run! She has such a long effortless stride, she covers so much ground so easily, without really appearing to be moving at all. That is unless you are on the other end of the lead <gg>.
That first BOB took a little bit longer, but what a day that turned out to be: Runner-up Best Exhibit in Group followed by Puppy in Show, under two different judges! The highlights of Flame's career would have to be her Bitch Challenges at the 1999 and 2001 Royal Adelaide Shows (with Runner-Up Best of Breed in 1999 as well), her Intermediate in Show at the 1999 Hound Club of New South Wales Champ Show (pictured), her Reserve Bitch Challege at the 2002 Basenji Club of New South Wales Champ Show (under Breed Specialist Mr Paul Singleton (Jethard - UK)), her Reserve Bitch Challenge and Open in Show at the 2001 Basenji Club of Victoria Champ Show, and her Opposite Australian Bred in Show at the 2000 Basenji Club of New South Wales Champ Show. All but one of these wins were under International judges representing Chile, South Africa, the United States, and England. Now in her senior years, Flame has been retired from the Show Ring, and will now only make occasional appearances in Veteran's Parades. Notable firsts Flame has brought Mzalia Basenjis...
