A
striking and very masculine individual, Colt gave us a very special moment when
he became Mzalia's second Australian Champion. It was the
ultimate realisation of the potential he had always displayed to myself and his
owners.
From the first litter of our charming bitch Flame (Aus Ch Eilsta Qwyt Kutani), when it came time to select which of her boys from the litter I wanted to retain for the show ring, I had a very difficult choice to make between what I deemed to be two very good prospects in the puppies that were to become Mzalia Texas Ranger (Ranger) and Mzalia Texas Gunfighter (Colt). From the moment the puppies were first on their feet, it was these two boys that immediately caught the eye. Both were very strong to type, sound, and very masculine. They had a certain aura about them. And like his littermates, Colt too inherited his mother's beautiful coat.
After opting to keep Ranger, I was delighted to be able to send Colt to Stan and Eileen Laycock of Eilsta Basenjis in Tasmania. Back in 1997, when I was looking for a good bitch puppy to become the foundation bitch for my kennel, they were kind enough to send me Flame, who was the pick bitch from their litter sired by Aus Ch Baagna Racy N Blackk out of Aus Ch Baagna Prize Copy. Without Flame, I would not be where I am today.
From
the moment Colt was unloaded off the plane, it was love at first sight with his
new owners. They love him and he adores them.
Despite being a slow maturing puppy, Colt was a multiple Baby Puppy of Breed winner, twice converting these wins to Baby Puppy in Group awards, one under Mr Fred Heal of Canada, and the other under Mr C Huyzers of South Africa.
Colt really blossomed as he matured, consistently winning Best of Breed awards. He is had 3 Best Exhibit in Group Awards, with a best result of no less than BEST EXHIBIT IN SHOW at the All Breeds Kennel Association Show on 9th April 2000 under Mrs J Armatys & Miss N Robertson. This was the first Best in Show for a Mzalia-bred dog, and the first Best in Show for his owners since 1971, So needless to say it was a thrill for all concerned!
Now retired from the Show Ring, Colt has established himself as an excellent sire from limited opportunities.
In May 2000 he became a father for the first
time, to Aus Ch Eilsta Qwyt Jaffa. Two puppies from this litter
RuBIS Aus Grand Ch Eilsta Temple Fury (Tom) and Eilsta Temple Mystique (Tiki)
were shown, both of them being Multiple Class in Group Winners at All Breeds
Championship Shows. Tom in particular has had an excellent career in the Ring. He
is an All Breeds Championship Show Runner-up Best Exhibit in Show winner,
and a multiple Best in Group and Class in Show winner. He is also Tasmania's
first basenji Grand Champion. Tom is owned by Colleen Fox and
Jessica Brindle, and has been handled to most of his big wins by Jessica. He is her first showdog and she
has done a
fabulous job with him. A third puppy from this litter Eilsta Temple Starr
(Hozay, pictured right), lives in a pet home here in Adelaide, and could have made an impact in the ring

In July 2001, Colt became a father for the
second time, this time to Mrs Sue Zichy-Woinarski's Zichy Dalo Akamarei. A
tri-coloured boy from this litter - Aus Ch Zichy Eumina Cangelca
(Jazz - pictured left) - had some excellent results during his career. As a
Baby Puppy, he was a Baby Puppy in Show and multiple Baby Puppy in Group
winner, and since graduating to the adult classes has become a Best Exhibit in
Group and multiple Class in Group winner. Some of

In 2002, Colt became a father for the third time, this time to Aus Ch Baagna Wyld Fern. Two puppies from this litter were shown, and were multiple Class in Group and Class in Show winners. They also had points towards their Championship titles . Click here to see the pedigree of this litter.
Now a veteran, Colt has been retired from the Show Ring.
